Areas of Practice

Business Litigation

We have handled business torts such as breach of contract, fraud, deceptive trade practice, employment contract disputes, slander, and civil conspiracy. We are available for local counsel on both plaintiff and the defense side of the lawsuit and will accept participating referral's.

Criminal

We have extensive experience defending the rights of people arrested and accused of criminal offenses. We handle all types of criminal cases, including minor infractions and misdemeanors to the most serious felony indictments. Examples are: drunk driving, drug possession, narcotics sales, theft and grand larceny, white collar fraud, embezzlement, sex offenses, arson, and conspiracy. Jimmy Phillips, Jr. began practicing criminal law in 1965 with the Harris County District Attorney's Office. After two years, he entered private practice and was among the first criminal lawyers who were recognized by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1975. His criminal practice is fluent in both the state courts of Texas and the Federal Court system of the United States. Katherine Scardino is a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. She is an active speaker at TCDLA sponsored seminars during the year and in various cities in Texas as well as having been published in the statewide criminal lawyers publication. She has appeared on Court TV, Cochran & Co., the Today Show, Dateline and other local television stations to speak about various criminal law issues in Texas. Katherine Scardino has an active criminal law practice in Harris County and other counties in Texas. Katherine Scardino is licensed to practice law in the state and Federal Courts as well as the Supreme Court of the United States. Katherine Scardino and Jimmy Phillips, Jr. are certified to handle death penalty cases in Harris County and Brazoria County, Texas.

Criminal Appeals

We handled a large number of appeals in the state courts of Texas, the Federal Courts of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Employment to handle criminal appeals are accepted on a case by case basis.

Family Law

We handle a full range of Family Law matters including adoption, divorce, separation, pre-marital agreements, paternity, child custody, and support. We have an area of practice in Family Law in Brazoria, Harris, Ft. Bend, Matagorda, Montgomery, Wharton and Galveston counties in Texas. Katherine Scardino has an active Family Law practice, mainly in Harris and surrounding counties. She has been a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas since 1990. Jimmy Phillips, Jr. is recognized by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in the area of family law and has been since 1976.

Personal Injury

We represent individuals involved in controversies alleging a wrong or damage to another's person, rights, reputation, or property resulting from events or activities such as automobile accidents, defective products, infliction of emotional distress, intentional misconduct, and negligence. We have handled all types of personal injury cases, mainly in the State of Texas. Cases we handled include automobile accidents, on job injuries, intentional torts, medical malpractice, death actions and other types of unusual torts such as false arrest or malicious prosecution. We are available for employment as local counsel on both the plaintiff and the defense side of the docket as well as participating referrals.
